Ceremonial Cacao

What is ceremonial cacao?
Ceremonial cacao is cacao selected for its origin, flavour and traditional use. It is usually made from minimally processed cacao, keeping the natural cacao butter together with the cacao solids for a rich texture and full cacao flavour.
What is the difference between ceremonial cacao and cacao powder?
Ceremonial cacao contains the natural cacao butter, which gives it a richer texture and makes it ideal for drinking cacao. Cacao powder is drier and is often used for baking, smoothies and recipes where a powder is preferred.
How much cacao should I use for one cup?
For a daily cup, we suggest starting with 15g to 25g of ceremonial cacao with 180ml to 220ml of hot water or milk. Start with a smaller amount if you are new to cacao and adjust to your preference.
Should I prepare cacao with water or milk?
You can prepare cacao with hot water for a lighter, more direct cacao flavour. You can also use dairy or plant-based milk for a creamier drink.
Should I boil ceremonial cacao?
No. Warm the water or milk first, then add the cacao and whisk, blend or stir gently. Avoid boiling cacao directly, as excessive heat can affect texture and flavour.
Can I sweeten ceremonial cacao?
Yes. You can add panela, cane honey, cinnamon, ginger or a small pinch of chilli if desired. You can also enjoy it pure, without sweetener.
Can I drink ceremonial cacao every day?
Many people enjoy cacao as part of a daily routine. Start with a small serving and adjust according to your preference.

Storage & Preparation

How should I store ceremonial cacao?
Keep ceremonial cacao in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and strong odours. Seal the bag properly after opening.
How should I store powders and superfoods?
Store powders and superfoods in a cool, dry place. Always close the packaging properly after use.
Can I use SelvaBio products in recipes?
Yes. Our cacao, maca, panela and other superfoods can be used in drinks, smoothies, baking, desserts and everyday recipes.
Can cacao melt during warm weather?
Ceremonial cacao and cacao butter may soften or melt in warm conditions because they naturally contain cacao butter. This does not usually affect the quality of the product. Allow it to cool and solidify again before use.
